The night safari is exactly what it sounds like, an open air zoo only open at night. It is set amongst a humid tropical forest to be explored by tram or on foot. Animals are visible through a beaming light resembling a bright moonlight. The interesting creatures to be found among the many include, Tapirs, Jackals, Rhinos, Mousedeer, Dholes, and Flying Squirrels (housed in their own exhibit).

The extra $10 tram ride is well worth it as it takes you around the whole park with little effort. All trams include a guide to explain each passing exhibit, which is something you won’t get on foot. There is a tram station half way through the route in case you want to hop on and off to explore with some freedom.

The walking trails are always fun because it allows you to get up close and personal with the nocturnal creatures. There are a total of four easily walkable trails to explore; the Fishing Cat Trail, Leopard Trail, Forest Giants Trail, and East Lodge Trail. Fishing Cats are obviously the star of the Fishing Cat Trail. Guest will witness these cats fishing for their prey. While on the Leopard Trail, one can spot several Leopards, Civets, and Tarsiers. Also on the Leopard Trail is the house of Fruit Bats and house of Flying Squirrels. The Forest Giant Trail is more about the plants than the animals, but Bats, Lemurs, Owls, and Squirrels may be found. An African safari is experienced on the East Lodge Trail with Servals, Hyeanas, and Bongos.

Among the attractions, a trip to the Night Safari is not complete without watching “The Creatures of the Night”. The 20 minute presentation introduces viewers to the most exotic animals, such as, nimble binturongs to intuitive civets. The show is also interactive so those who want to partake have a good chance when sitting in the front rows. Showtimes are 7:30pm, 8:30pm, 9:30pm, and an additional at 10:30pm for Friday and Saturday nights. It’s advised to arrive early to confirm a seat.

The park is open daily from 7:30pm to 12:30pm, with the last admission at 12pm. The restaurants and retail shops open at 6pm. Tickets are S$32 for adults, S$21 for children aged 3-12 years old, and free for children under 3. For all other information and transportation options, check the website for Singapore Night Safari.

A visit to the Singapore Night Safari is a magical and unique experience that will make a trip to Singapore much more memorable. Watching wildlife at night is nothing like watching during the day!
