Exercise…and I say this sadly because I have my lazy moments too…is a strictly Do-It-Yourself affair.

If the idea of ​​running, lifting weights or weighing against the rower just isn’t your thing, you’re in good company.

A lot of good people just aren’t into exercise.

And that’s OK.

Because here is wonderful news…

According to recent research, you can ALWAYS find your slimmer glow, lose weight, and look absolutely fabulous – WITHOUT strenuous exercise.

Researcher, Dr. James Hill found that the average daily number of steps taken by women is around 5,000 steps.

Curiously, her study shows that overweight women take 2,000 fewer steps per day than their happy-weight sisters.

Think about it for a moment.

Only 2,000 steps separate overweight people from their happy weight counterparts.

Aim to increase the number of steps by 2,000 per week until you reach a comfortable and maintainable goal. Hill’s study suggests that 10,000 steps per day is a good baseline.

The beauty of walking is its accessibility. I assume there is a sidewalk (“trottoir” for my American readers) in front of your house?

Yeah? Go familiarize yourself with it.

The walk is safe, simple and you will soon get good at it. You can adapt the walk to your lifestyle. Anytime anywhere.

No excuses.

You don’t need a gym membership. No specialized Lycra kit required.

Listen: my goal is not to discourage you from working out. If you love your spin classes or if you like lifting iron… hats off to you chica, keep it up.

I realize that there are exercise experts who say “you have to exercise with continuous motion for an hour to get fitness results”.

And that may be true. If you are training for a marathon.

All I know is that whether it was food, exercise or anything, I had to find my own rhythms and stick to them.

I’ve learned that if I’m like, “I HAVE to get my 10,000 steps in one workout,” I’ll find all kinds of inventive ways to avoid getting out. I will overwhelm myself. And do nothing.

But I’ve found that if I do a bunch of 15 minute walks throughout the day, it feels good. And when night fell, I reached my 10,000 steps.

Job is a good guy.

I also learned to keep it simple. In my book, even a five-minute walk is much better than no walk at all.

So no, you don’t need to start a formal exercise program…(unless you want to feel more confident, be less moody, and feel better about yourself)…but you do need to move your body.

Do it every chance you get. Yes, this too will burn calories; )

Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk your dog. Park your car a block from your office and make a difference. Get off the train one stop earlier and take a walk. Leave the car in the garage and walk to school.

Move.

Dance.

Player.

Enjoy. You only have one body. It was designed to move. Enjoy it.
