Seattle Sports – Sports Fans Beware
It is ranked as the 5th worst city for sports fans. Seattle has the Seahawks who have never been to the Super Bowl and have only been to the dance once. The Seattle Super Sonics (O wait till they move!) and the Seattle Mariners. We have other teams, but no one cares about the Seattle Storm or the names of our hockey teams. If you’re a sports fan, I’m going to give you some thoughtful reasons why you should
beware of moving to Seattle.
We’ll call the Seahawks the best of the bad. Prior to 2005, the Seahawks had the longest playoff winning streak of any NFL team, dating back to the 1984 season. It hurts when you have great seasons in the past 10 years but never finish. . It’s like the Braves’ unprecedented 14 division titles in 15 years and no ring, only worse. They have been better lately reaching 2 NFC championship games in the last 4 years. But like most Seattle teams, they got choked up. A great thing about the Seahawks is the Qwest field. I don’t know what Paul Allen did to make the stadium so vibrant and noisy, but it’s a fun outing on a Sunday morning.
We will call the sailors the merchants. We have to call them that because of the horrible senior management decisions and trades. I remember the days of Griffey, Edgar, Buhner and Rodriguez. Only to see them all disappear within 3 years due to bad business decisions. I don’t question age and injuries but do question management’s thought process when Richie Sexson stays on the team at $189. Beltre is one of the highest paid 3rd basemen game, but cannot touch the wide side of a barn. In 2001, the Mariners made history by tying the winningest season in baseball history with 116, only to lose in the first round of the playoffs. To be a Mariners fan, you have to dig deep to find your soul. It was in 1995, in Game 5 of the Division Series, that Edgar hit a game-winner to drive in Griffey. If you can think back to those days, you’ll always have Mariner blood. Until then, stay away from the games because it’s ugly.
We’ll call the dead Sonics. Since 2006, the city of Seattle could see the Key Arena disappear and Supersonics in decline. We got to see Kevin Durante a full season and watch young Ridnour grow into a good playmaker, but the Supersonics Howard Schultz is sold out. He was tired of the city, the arena and the bureaucracy. I don’t blame him. Even if the Supersonics had stayed, they still would have sucked. It’s depressing in its own way. Goodbye Supersonics, we loved you for a while, then we didn’t care. The Sonics’ obituary reads: They never fought and only fled; they were bought by a redneck head. Thanks Clay Bennett for ruining basketball for Seattle.
I expressed my feelings about Seattle Sports. It is good to live in this beautiful city. The North West is beautiful and there are lots of things to do. Just stay away from stadiums and the subway because you’ll only be disappointed with Seattle Sports.
